About Me

Hi! I'm Jerry Smith, a seasoned educator, editor, and wordsmith with a talent for helping people clearly communicate their thoughts, plans, objectives, and ideas. I have twenty years of experience teaching the English language, twelve years of experience as an ESL editor and proofreader, and have been writing since childhood. My areas of specialization include e-learning, teaching adult ESOL, editing, proofreading, writing, ESL teacher training, people management, and creating ESL teaching materials. I have a broad general knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and strong communication abilities. In intercultural settings, I am empathetic, patient, and highly experienced in providing service. I have also been published as a qualitative researcher on TESOL and World 'Englishes.' __________ In terms of education, I have completed units for a PhD in Language Education and a PhD in Christian Education. I also hold an MBA in Human Resources Management, an MA in Teaching-English (TESOL), a BS in Occupational Education with a focus on Corporate Training & Development, a diploma in Professional Proofreading & Editing, and a paralegal career certificate. Additionally, I have obtained numerous writing certificates and am certified in TESOL, professional teaching, and professional proofreading & editing. __________ My experience includes being an instructor of English Composition at an accredited U.S. online university, where I train non-native-speaking students in essay and professional writing, with a focus on accuracy, balance, clarity, cohesion, continuity, economy, and variety. I have also worked as a freelance English language teacher, writing tutor, ESL editor, TESOL trainer, and content writer for various clients, including adult learners, business people, job seekers, professionals, marketers, tech companies, university students, and religious organizations. In this role, I develop business English, pronunciation, speaking, and writing skills, prioritize customer service and time management, and have the ability to clearly communicate verbal and written feedback. I also write and edit blogs, news articles, business documents, academic papers, training documents, religious content, and e-books. __________ Previously, I served as a Human Resources Personnel Manager in an online English tutorial company, where I managed 50-70 ESL teachers, developed recruitment and on-boarding processes, created a modular teacher training course, overhauled an existing quality assurance program, and designed an employee evaluation system. As a result of my efforts, customer satisfaction, teacher ratings, and employee performance all increased. __________ Outside of my career in education and writing, I am a United States Air Force (USAF) veteran, having served as a Technical School Instructor, Security Forces - Correctional Custody Supervisor, and Hazardous Waste Manager. __________ In summary, my objective is to empower my customers to succeed in their academic, professional, and personal goals.
